URINETOWN is running May 30 – 31, at Alliance Française Vancouver, featuring the Senior and Intermediate ensembles.
In a Gotham-like city gripped by a 20-year drought, water has become so scarce that private toilets are banned, and citizens must pay for the “privilege to pee.” Controlled by the malevolent Urine Good Company, these public amenities are the only option for the poor – until a young hero named Bobby Strong decides he’s had enough. This Tony-winning musical is a wickedly funny, self-aware satire that skewers everything from capitalism and social irresponsibility to the tropes of musical theatre itself. Featuring a sharp, catchy score and a lot of heart (amidst all the sewage), Urinetown is an irreverent romp that proves even in the darkest of times, rebellion – and laughter – can still flourish.
